Comedy or Tragedy

Comedy or tragedy,
The spice of life,
Fruits of our labor,
Aspirations of our soul.
Our daily grind
It lends us to think,
What makes you laugh?
What makes you cry?
Are you living life as a comedy
Or is this time we spend a tragedy?
Laugh or cry,
In the end we all must die,
Now choose:
Happiness in life
Or a somber death.

The Girl

There once lived a little girl. She was pretty and sweet but a sad little creature. She sat by the pond everyday and kicked her toes in the cool water. She often cried and let her tears wash away in the pooled water. One day, as she sat, a tiny fairy floated down and landed on her knee. The girl was especially distraught and the little fairy felt sad because of this.

“Sweet child, why are you so sad?” inquired the fairy.

“Well fairy, this is the prettiest place I know and thus the only place I enjoy being. The world is so cruel but not here, not this pond,” replied the little girl.

“Don't be sad about this dark world, it'll only make your heart grow hard. You sit in this pretty pond but all you can think about is your broken heart. You missed so much while you cried in this pond,” scolded the fairy.

“Now fairy, what exactly have I missed? All I see is the sunless sky and the heartless folks we meet on a day to day basis,” sniffled the little girl.

“Oh little angel you have missed so much! Your sky is not sunless but bright and blue. Over at the edge of the pond are little purple flowers scattered all along the ground. You even missed the little doe sitting quietly under that tree,” enthused the fairy.

The girl looked up from her pouting position and assessed her surroundings. There were mother birds feeding their babies in pretty nests. Bunnies were hopping around and playing, sun was sparkling off the pond water and frogs were jumping off lily pads. She had taken all her discontent to this impressive piece of land.

“Why fairy I apologize, I let all the bad pierce me deep inside and ruin how I see things,” the fairy smiled and hugged the little girls finger then fluttered off. The little girl watched the fairy play with the animals and smell all the flowers. The grass was so green and the water was so clear, she smiled big. She couldn't remember now why the world had hurt her so much before.
