Diary
of Buddy: When Will I Find Peace?
I
complained about the heat and it seems the world has answered me with
a great chill. My people do not find it very cold but I sit in the
yard where only the sun shines and pray for warmth to come to me.
They keep threatening to give me a bath and I hope they forget. Maybe
if they showered less then I wouldn't smell to them. The puppy Wes
has been over more and I do not find him so intolerable as of late.
He mostly just wants attention and on occasion I give it to him. I
mostly just cannot deal with the cold and it seems to be getting
colder. At night I dream of the perfect temperature and when I wake I
am thrust into the early morning freeze. I cry and cry at the door
and it seems to take hours to let me in. I curl in my bed most of the
day. I have fattened up but that brings me no solace. My people were
kind enough to stick me in a sweater some time ago. I must now rest.
All of my shivering has exhausted me.

Amy
Amy
was six and in her 6 short years she knew she was different from her
family. Her mommy was tall and blonde. Her daddy was tall and
brunette. Her siblings were fair skinned and a variation of blonde
and brunette as well. Amy was shorter and had very long, straight jet
black hair. Her family had light eyes, either blue or green. Amy's
eyes were such a dark brown they looked almost black. Her family had
wide eyes and very angular features and Amy had almond shaped eyes
and softer features. She knew she was different but her mother and
father called her their daughter and her siblings called her their
sister. One day, after a fairly rough day at school, Amy wanted to
know why she was different.
“Mommy,
why do I not look like you?” asked Amy. Amy's mom knew this day
would come and she was prepared.
“Well,
honey, you are different because we picked you. I am not your only
mommy and daddy is not your only daddy. Your first mommy and daddy
love you very much but they could not give you the life they deserved
so they prayed really hard and trusted us to be your forever mommy
and daddy. They could not afford to take care of you and they were
very sad about that but they were also very happy that your daddy and
I loved you before we even met you. We always wanted a big family but
mommy got sick and couldn't have anymore babies. We decided to do
what is called an adoption. No matter what you are our baby, someone
else just carried you for me,” answered Amy's mommy.
“So
I have another mommy and another daddy?”
“Yup,”
Amy's mom responded with some hesitation.
“The
kids at school make fun of me for not looking like you guys but I
think they are just jealous because I get to have lots of parents,”
chimed in Amy.
“Do
you have any questions about your first mommy and daddy?”
“No
I just can't wait to tell Lisa Smith that I am different but that is
okay because I am still yours.”
Amy
had always felt different but now that she knew why she no longer
felt so strange about it. She belonged to her family and the universe
knew that, that's why she was given to her parents when they could
not have another baby of their own.
