El
Día de la Batalla de Puebla
The
French have an intimidating army. Napoleon III surely wanted what the
original Napoleon wanted: world domination. Mexico was in deep
financial trouble. We owned several countries money. Most countries
worked out deals with us but France wanted to own us. They wanted a
Latin regime that would help with French interests. The United States
was tied up in civil war and Napoleon III used this to their
advantage. I am sure he thought if he took Mexico then maybe he could
work his way into the United States.
The
problem with the French is that they are too smart. So smart that
they make mistakes. They followed Commander General Zaragoza to
Puebla thinking we were sympathetic to the French they waited to
attack us until later in the day. They attacked from the north, first
mistake. Zaragoza did not have as many men and our weapons were
archaic but the French gave us the advantage of attacking us from the
north. We flanked them on the left and the right of the road. Soon it
began to rain. We were hunkered down in fight, the French were moving
forward.
Because
of the shooting and rain, the French were in a chaotic state. They
could not sustain the fight and retreated. We had victory for Mexico
in Puebla! The Mexican military and the people of Puebla celebrated.
This was not the end of French intrusion. The French did eventually
impose their own mock leader in our country but the Battle of Puebla
served as inspiration to all of Mexico for fighting the French.

The
Magpie and the Mirror
Thaddeus
the magpie was truly a beautiful bird but he simply knew that too
well. He would strut around and tell everyone how handsome he was.
One day, Thaddeus found a broken piece of a mirror and looked into.
When he saw how truly beautiful he was he could not stop staring at
himself. Oh the wonder! Oh the beauty! His eyes had never seen such
beauty in his life! He carried his mirror everywhere he went, to the
delight of the other birds and animals. They no longer got harassed
by Thaddeus over his beauty.
He
carried that mirror so often that he rarely paid attention to where
he was going and never listened to warnings from friends. They all
tried to stop him from walking right off a cliff but he would not
listen. He walked off the cliff and never even noticed. He saw only
his beautiful face and not his imminent end all the way down.
Thaddeus only loved himself and carried the mirror to the end so he
could love himself some more.
