The
Jog
Jogging
through the park the stars twinkle down upon us. Breathing in and
out, we cruise along the lake pounding the pavement where roly polies
avoid us giants. The cool air kissed our damp skin and our lungs
worked hard to pump us to our goal. We pass by families of bunnies
and avoid the enormous spiders that scamper along the path. Our legs
grow tired but our end is just in sight so we push through the pain
and urge our legs to go faster. Bugs buzzing around we focus on or
feet. Left, right, left, right, moving towards an end that is so
close but feels so far. With a final burst we reach our end and take
a moment to take in our effort. Breathing hard and smiling at our
accomplishment, the lake looks like glass as if the night sky is
admiring it's own reflection. The air is cold but our bodies are
warm. The groundhogs sleep and the racoons rouse for night time trash
adventures but we just stand and admire the beauty of a quiet lake in
the middle of a busy suburb. A lovely evening run in a serene
Colorado city at the heart of the foothills.

Gloria
Gloria
loved her rose bushes. They were her greatest accomplishment.
Everyday she tended to her roses, watering them, pruning them,
feeding them and even talking sweetly to them. They were the most
beautiful roses in all of the city, possibly even the whole world.
Each year she dreamed of her roses being even more beautiful than the
year before. The winter came and went and Gloria got ready to prune
her new rose bushes for the season. She inspected her roses and
nothing was growing, not even thorns or leaves. Each day she looked
for life in her roses but each day it never showed any signs. The
whole spring came and went as did summer. Gloria's roses never came
back and her world was crushed. Every night she wept for what she no
longer had. She missed her roses and never understood why they never
grew back.
